1966 Chiefs 27 - 1963 Giants 24

The Chiefs were able to hold off the magnificent Y.A. Tittle and the 63 Giants on the strength of three timely interceptions and a 91 yard punt return by Mike Garrett. The Giants could muster almost no running game against Stram's defense, but Tittle threw for over 400 yards as the Giants kept battling back.

One feature of old time teams is that most of them them force turnovers at a hair-raising rate compered to modern teams - and tend to be sloppy with ball security. A lot of this is because the passing game is much more geared towards long passing. Even so, this excellent Giants team is less prone than most of the era to turn it over - but the Chiefs are ball hawks extraordinaire, and they got enough to win the game.

Game Story

In a tightly fought contest Kansas City topped New York NFL by the score of 27 to 24. Mike Garrett ran the ball 16 times for 65 yards. Kansas City controlled the ground game, out-rushing New York NFL 118 to 48 yards. Kansas City was on top at the half 17 to 10. Y.A. Tittle threw 49 times for 438 yards and 2 touchdowns for New York NFL, but it wasn't enough.

1959 Giants 13 - 1057 Lions 10

I have been playing this game for 40 years in the original and PC versions. I have never. NEVER. Made as stupid a decision as I did coaching the Lions in this old school slugfest.

Lions are up, 10 - 3, and at the Giants 5 yard line in the fourth. Bobby Layne has been hurt, crippling the Lions offense as Tebowish running QB Tobin Rote is now at the helm. Hopalong Cassady loses a fumble on third down. Terrible. The Lions could have essentially salted away the game on the next play with a FG. Ah well, thems the breaks.

Giants move out of the shadow of their goal posts with a 15 yard Conerly pass and a ten yard run. On the next play though Conerly is sacked for 12, followed by a holding penalty on the Giants, followed by a loss on a draw play. Its now 3rd and over 30. Conerly is hit again and fumbles and the Lions recover at the four - dialog box opens - Fall on the Ball, or pick up and run?

And the idiot coaching the Lions sez pick up the ball. Lions fumble, Giants recover...and its First and Ten Giants! the Giants drive the field to tie. All I had to do was fall on the ball, run some clock, kick a FG for a 2 score lead, that should have been it.

Next drive Tobin Rote strings a few completions and a couple of good scrambles together to get in FG range, but the Lions miss on @ a 75% shot. Giatns QB Conerly hits a long pass on the next play, Giants are in FG position, and Pat Summerall wins the damned thing. The end.

I really enjoyed playing these Lions, but they were overmatched and a touch unlucky this time. Giants are on to the Third Round
