1963 Chargers 24 - 1981 Bengals 13

The 1963 Chargers are a nightmare to defend against - after all, this team won the AFL Championship game against the Patriots 51 - 10, as FB Keith Lincoln played probably the greatest game in NFL History. The team averaged 5.6 YPC running, led by Paul Lowe (5.7 YPC) and Kieth Lincoln (6.5 YPC). QB Tobin Rote is also awesome, and was the AP Player of the Year. Their offensive stats are video game-like. They led the league in both offensive points and defensive points allowed.

So, how do you beat them? Score lots of points. Hold the RB's in check. Intercept Tobin Rote (he is prone to this). make them miss FG's (as a FG kicker, George Blair makes a fine Strong Safety). The Chargers defense is pretty good, but nothing like unbeatable, so they can be had.

The Bengals held the Chargers to 3.5 YPC. They intercepted Tobin Rote twice. They held them to 24 points. Their mediocre running backs played out of their minds. And their splendid QB Kenny Anderson completely laid an egg, not helped by 7 sacks on the part of the Chargers D-line, led by one day Pro wrassler Ernie "The Big Cat" Ladd.
