1968 Colts 27 - 1989 49ers 7

You just never know. This was a game I had really looked forward to as a true heavyweight bout. Both of these teams are strong enough to take the tournament IMO, as opposed to "courtesy invites" like the 1970 Vikings, 2003 Chiefs, or 57 Browns. Both had dominant real life seasons, with the 49ers destroying the Broncos i the Superbowl, and the Colts going into infamy by losing to the Jets in SB III.

This one was never close. The stifling Colts defense held the 49ers under 200 yards, as it turns out the 49ers have slighty suspect poass blocking. Bubba Smith et al tossed Montana around like a rag doll, sacking him 6 times and allowing only short completions. Roger Craig couldn't make a dent in the Colts defense, and the Colts also benefitted from 115 yards in 49er penalties - a number of which (such as a PI call in the end zone on a lond pass attempt to John Mackey) proved devastating.

I still think if these two matched up ten times each wins five...but not this time. The 68 Colts go on, the 89 49ers go home
