1965 Browns 28 - 1984 Dolphins 24

The 1984 Dolphins were the best team in the Tournment at long passing. They are simply terrifying. They are also deeply flawed in having a run defense that might generously be called flabby. Against Jim Brown and the '65 Browns this was lethal.

The Browns got up to a good lead, then essentially played keep away, grinding out 54 rushing attempts for over 250 yards, none of it on big runs. Browns QB Frank Ryan can be dangerous with the deep ball, though he is erratic, and simply cannot throw without having first been set up by a good running game. This was exactly what the Browns did, and it paid off with an extremely efficient 11 for 16 passing performance by Ryan, including one big scoring strike to Gary Collins against a Miami defense caught crowdig the line of scrimmage in an attempt to stop Jim Brown.

Dan Marino did eventually get more or less untracked, and eventually was able to get back in the game late, especially as both Browns runners, Jim Brown and Ernie Green had been run to the point of exhaustion (In game terms a running back that is badly overused will hit a point when they become increasingly ineffective due to fatigue. That point is very high for Jim Brown, but it was exceeded anyways)

The Browns defense is pretty soft, and I suspect they will get bounced out by the first good run defense they face - but this was a bad matchup for the Dolphins, and they are eliminated.
