1980 Eagles 31 - 1988 Bengals 28

Two very good QB's put on a clinic, but in the case of Boomer Esiason he started too late and ran out of time. Add in two missed FG's in the first half and the powerful bengals go home.

The Eagles offense was rollling in the first half, as Ron Jaworski led their big play passing attack through and over the Bengals vulnerable pass defense. the Bengals moved the ball too, but couldn't garner points, as Jim Breech flubbed makeable FG's on the first and fourth possessions of the game. The halftime score stood at 24 - 7.

The Bengals got rolling on their first drive of the second, but Esiason committed the only turnover either team would commit in Eagles territory with an interception. After stopping the Eagles offense cold the Bengals were unable to do anything with great field position and were forced to punt. The eagles mounted a long time consuming drive of their own, sparked by a 32 yard catch and run to Krepfle as Jaworski beat a Cinci blitz, but erratic Tony Franklin missed a FG attempt of his own with 5 minutes left in the third.

The Eagles never stopped Cincinatti again, as the Bengals scored TD's on three consecutive drives - the problem being that Philly was able to score another TD of their own and were able to maintain their lead, and were able to eventually run out the clock on Cinci.

Cincinatti is the better team IMO, but all of the teams in the tournament are at least very good, and this Philly team is no exception. The Bengals were done in by their pass defense , FG kicking, and a big play receiving corps as good as their own.
