This was a crushing performance by the high powered Broncos offense. Elway was much better in this game than his first, Rod Smith toasted the Ratbirds secondary, and Terrell Davis repeatedly and consistently ran through the Baltimore defense for runs in the 5 - 15 yard range. The Ravens actually scored first, exploiting the weak Broncos pass defense, but the Broncos scored TD's on their next three possessions, and Steve McNair is not an ideal QB to lead a comeback. On subsequent Denver possessions the Broncs ground out time; even when they didn't add points they bled the clock. |

John Elway passed 28 times for 319 yards and 2 touchdowns. Denver was great on third down, converting on 7 of 11 opportunities. They controlled all phases of the game. They out-ran Baltimore 186 to 97 yards, and out-passed them 319 to 222 yards. Denver got ahead early outscoring Baltimore 14 to 7 in the first quarter. They were on top at the half 28 to 10. A hightlight for Baltimore was a touchdown pass to Derrick Mason that went for 55 yards with 14:07 left in the 1st quarter. But it was not enough to bring his team a victory.. |
