1988 Bengals 21 - 1969 Vikings 12

The Vikes did a far better job of shutting down the machine that is the 88 Bengals offense than the 73 Rams did, but they just couldn't score points of their own. They were also done in by a late injury to Joe Kapp, as Gary Cuozzo came on in relief and threw 2 of his 4 passes into the waiting arms of Cinci defenders to close the doors on Minnesotas hopes.

The Vikings actually moved surprisingly well (though the Cinci defense is pretty suspect), and Joe Kapp was highly effective, but they kept having to settle for FG'sd. Not good enough against this opponent.

Game Story

Boomer Esiason put up some nice numbers as Cincinnati topped Minnesota by the score of 21 to 12. Esiason threw the ball 24 times for 249 yards and 2 touchdowns. James Brooks carried the ball 14 times for 66 yards and added a touchdown. Cincinnati won the air battle out-passing Minnesota 249 to 183 yards. Cincinnati led after three quarters 14 to 12. A bright spot for Minnesota was a pass to Gene Washington that gained 56 yards with 2:22 left in the 3rd quarter. But it was not enough to bring his team a victory..
