1998 Broncos 30 - 1992 49ers 17

The Broncos win the Whippersnapper Bracket, with a solid and hard fought 30 - 17 victory over a very tough Niners squad. John Elway was effective, and a good thing too, as the Niners came as close as anyone has to containing Terrell Davis, holding him to under 4 yards per carry.

Denver opened with two good drives to take a 10 - 0 lead. The Niners were stopped cold on their first two possessions, and when Denver got the ball for the third time it looked a little like a blowout was brewing. Nuh uh. Elway threw and interception, setting up a San Francisco TD, They were able to tack on another FG, but the Niners came back with a drive that was almost too easy, taking a 14 - 13 lead. The Broncos were able to add another TD before the half, and stopped the 49ers on downs right before the gun to hold a 20 - 14 lead.

Denver tallied another TD on their first 2nd half possession on a 9 yard Davis run, while the 49ers added a Cofer FG. After an exchange of punts the Broncs scored the final points of the game on an Elam FG. The 49ers drove to the Bronco 24 with 5 minutes left, but Ray Crockett snuffed out the rally with an interception in the end zone, and that pretty much settled the game
